Find answers to the following questions below, and if you have more, feel free to contact us!

  1. 1. Can I drive my child to camp, rather than have them take the bus?
Yes, however, transportation is included in the registration fee and if you choose to provide your own transportation for your child, this will not reduce the registration fee. Also, the ride to camp on the bus is the beginning of the camp experience!

2. How can I contact my child while they are at camp?
We have a phone on-site and will be happy to take your calls: (709) 687-8593

3. Can my child choose a friend to share a room with?
Yes, your child may indicate the friend they would like to room with in our registration form.

4. How do you deal with food allergies?
We will not have any common food allergens at camp, i.e. peanuts and shellfish. If it is indicated in the registration form that a child has a serious allergy we will discuss our protocol on an individual basis with the parent. Please note that all camp counsellors have First Aid training, but our camp is located in a wilderness setting and it takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach a hospital.

5. Can my child bring their own food?
Only if there are special circumstances, such as a severe food allergy and the child is not able to eat the food that we provide. The reason for this is so that we can avoid having any foods at camp that may be allergens.

6. What type of food will be on the menu?
Our menu includes lots of variety and gives many options for children to choose from. We prioritize local, healthy, homemade food and have great cooks on staff and as volunteers. Breakfasts include: toast, eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, and a variety of fruit. Some examples of lunches and suppers are burgers, spaghetti, roasted chicken, tacos, and salads. Lunch and supper also always include a “Make Your Own Salad Bar”, and we always have vegetarian options. We also have snack times throughout the day that include fresh fruit, baked goods, and delicious smoothie pops on hot days.

7. Does my child have to take part in all of the activities that are offered?
We will give all children the opportunity to take part in all activities, as well the opportunity to choose activities they can specialize in throughout the camp. If for some reason there is an activity that your child does not want to participate in, we will work it out on a case by case basis.

8. What is your adult to child ratio?

We prioritize having a high staff-child ratio. Camps generally have between a 1:4 and 1:5 ratio.
